Introduction:

For this task, you will interview an organizational leader. You may interview your PPE preceptor or another manager at the organization. The purpose of this task is to understand the roles and responsibilities of managers and how their background and experiences support the work they do.

Another goal of this task is for you to develop your skill and professional style in communicating with managers. As a future manager, your ability to communicate effectively with other leaders is an important professional quality.

Requirements:

A. Provide the name, title, and credentials of the manager or supervisor you interviewed.

B. Summarize the manager or supervisor’s job responsibilities.

C. Describe how the manager or supervisor’s professional background and experiences prepared them for their current position.

D. Describe what the manager or supervisor believes are the biggest challenges being experienced in their professional field (i.e., healthcare or information technology) today.

Note: When you ask the manager or supervisor about their biggest challenges, be sure to make the question relevant to the manager or supervisor by specifying the environment (i.e., healthcare or information technology) that they work in.

Note: The manager or supervisor may not wish to discuss specific challenges at their organization, in which case you may rephrase the question in broader terms.

1. Discuss what the manager or supervisor believes are the reasons for the challenges described in part D.

2. Discuss how the challenges described in part D can be managed or solved.

E. Discuss what the manager or supervisor would offer as advice to a new professional entering this environment.

F. Describe what most impressed you about the individual you interviewed.

Note: For definitions of terms commonly used in the rubric, see the Rubric Terms web link included in the Evaluation Procedures section.

Note: When using sources to support ideas and elements in a paper or project, the submission MUST include APA formatted in-text citations with a corresponding reference list for any direct quotes or paraphrasing. It is not necessary to list sources that were consulted if they have not been quoted or paraphrased in the text of the paper or project.

Note: No more than a combined total of 30% of a submission can be directly quoted or closely paraphrased from sources, even if cited correctly. For tips on using APA style, please refer to the APA Handout web link included in the General Instructions section.
