“Empowerment is the granting of the power, right, or authority to perform various acts or duties (Empowerment, n.d.).” Empowerment, to me, is giving someone the chance to learn and apply their knowledge and opinion to the given situation to better improve the situation. The disadvantage is though that someone could think they are helping a lot and they could actually be hurting the situation, so it may cause some frustration or tension especially if someone tries to tell them they are hurting more than helping. This could cause for a hard situation. On the other hand, empowering people does really good things. It makes people feel valued, trusted, and they get creative to solve problems. It can make a situation so much better if done right. The employees feel heard and will participate more. They will also be more accepting of criticism because they know that they can have an opinion as well, which helps the business grow. People who feel valued will stay with a company longer and customers love that, so the business could have increased success. Employees are willing to go above and beyond for the business and do more like pick up more shifts, stay later, and other things that they may not really want to do, but because the business makes them feel good they will do to help it succeed. People will be more willing to speak to others about the business and it recommend employment at the location, which will help business. With the jewelry industry, if employees didn’t feel empowered you would see low numbers on commission and they would feel defeated most likely, but you give them the chance to learn and grow they will push to get higher commissions and believe that they are making a difference in helping the business grow and will work hard to prove it. It will attract customers which generates more sales and will create more success each step of the way. Empowerment helps create a positive situation if done correctly, so watch and adjust if needed, so it helps the business move in the right direction.
